Mary + Youssef // Winterthur Wedding

I was at a coffee shop today preparing images for this post when a couple tapped me on the shoulder because they saw the images and wanted to know more. After some conversation - she’s a model and he’s a classical pianist - they asked me what it was about weddings that I like most. I just gestured at the photo of Youssef + Mary that was on my screen. That was my short answer.

The longer answer is because I get to meet people like Youssef and Mary. I get to be there on this momentous day in their lives - a day they’ve planned for so long, a day they’ve thought about before they even met each other. I get to document this microcosm of human experience and see the relationships with their most special people that define them.

And I get to have fun with them in the rain because rain (so much rain!) is just background music to this story, the story of their lives that were rich and fulfilling yet somehow unfinished until they met.

I get to be awed by Mary’s incredible intellect, kindness, and sarcastic side-eye. I get to be blown away by Youssef’s analytical mind, love of fine wines, and unflappability (along with his love of J.Crew).

There’s also things like getting to do all this at Winterthur with incredible professionals like Erin and her team from Proud to Plan whose copious binders and ability to pull off the seemingly impossible are the stuff of legend. And I also get to work with gifted storytellers like Ron and his team from RL Media Production.

That’s some of the stuff I like about weddings. It’s mainly people like Mary + Youssef.

Special thanks to Nick at Artistic Imagery for trusting me fully with this cherished couple.

Lynsay + Mike // Springfield Country Club Wedding

I have a plot for a book. In this book, a girl named Lynsay is married to a boy named Brad. They have one kid and another on the way when Brad is tragically, awfully, infuriatingly killed while working as a police officer.

The next part of the book is as hard and difficult as you'd imagine. Lynsay is strong. Stronger than she probably realized. Stronger than anyone should ever need to be.

But then.... Lynsay and Mike meet. Mike's a police officer too. They get to know each other. Mike is a man of true character and many muscles. They fall in love. Mike and Lynsay make a life together with two kids and more dogs than I can keep track of. Brad and his family are very much a part of that life.

They decide it's the real deal. Mike is traditional and asks for Lynsay's father's blessing. Mike is a man of honor and also asks for Brad's father's blessing.

These 2 incredible people and 3 amazing families get married on a gray rainy day at Springfield Country Club. Some people might be bothered by the rain, but not Lynsay and Mike. They know what's really important.

I haven't finished the book yet, but I'm hoping the next chapters are filled with decades of laughter and love.

Brian + Jenny // Greenpoint Loft Brooklyn Wedding

Brian and I go way back, all the way back to the turn of the century when we were both friends and students at Philadelphia University. He's always been one of the most honorable people I know. When he asked me if I would be interested in photographing his marriage to Jenny, I jumped on the chance. And I'm so glad I did.

The amazing Greenpoint Loft served as the perfect backdrop. Brian's an architect, so of course he chose an awesome reclaimed multiuse industrial loft for their day. And what a day it was.
